Navigating Queensland’s New Knife Laws: A Guide for Butchers and Knife Buyers in Queensland

Sep 10, 2024Stanley Rees
Effective September 1, 2024, Queensland's new knife regulations will impact how residents purchase knives. Whether you're a professional butcher, a culinary enthusiast, or simply someone in need of a high-quality knife, understanding these regulations is crucial. Here’s everything you need to know to ensure a smooth and compliant purchase.

1. Understanding Queensland’s Knife Regulations

From September 1, 2024, Queensland will enforce stricter rules on the sale of knives. Individuals under 18 years of age will no longer be permitted to purchase knives, including but not limited to boning knives, skinning knives, filleting knives, meat cleavers, and other butcher knives. These regulations aim to enhance community safety by restricting access to potentially dangerous items.

2. Proof of Age Requirements

To comply with these new regulations, Queensland residents must provide proof of age to complete their knife purchase. Acceptable forms of ID include:

  • Australian photo driver’s license
  • Australian or overseas passport
  • Australian proof of age card (formerly 18+ card)
  • A digital copy of evidence displaying your name, photo, and date of birth

Instructions for Providing Proof of Age:

  1. Email your ID to info@allyourblades.com.au. Ensure that the name on your ID matches the name of the recipient on the order.
  2. Receive a confirmation email once we have verified your details.

Note: Your order will not be processed until we receive and verify your ID.

3. Collecting Your Order

All orders will be shipped via Australia Post with a signature required. Please collect your parcel in person and bring the ID that matches the one you provided during the purchase process.

4. Privacy Assurance

Rest assured, your personal information will be securely stored and used solely for age verification purposes. Your privacy and security are our top priorities.

5. Why These Regulations Matter

These new regulations are designed to reduce the risk of knife-related incidents and ensure that such tools are only accessible to those who are legally permitted to use them. By adhering to these rules, you contribute to a safer community and support responsible retailing practices.
